Road Salt VS Your Car

January 15, 2019 by btrilli Leave a Comment

Snow, ice, salt….everywhere! With the wrath of inclement weather hitting our area this winter, it is very important that you protect your vehicle from the effects of leftover salt. Sure, the salt is wonderful for melting snow and ice and making the roads safer for us to drive on, but leaving that salt on your car or tires could diminish the quality of your vehicle! Not only does the salt eat away at your car’s paint over time and corrodes metal…but it causes an accelerated amount of dry rot on your tires. It may not be warm out, but it is extremely important to get our vehicle detailed during the winter to keep it in tip top condition, and to preserve the life of your vehicle and tires! Book your detailing appointment today, and let our team get that salt off your vehicle! Book Here >>

Is It Really Necessary To Replace My Timing Belt?

January 11, 2019 by btrilli Leave a Comment

YES. The failure of a timing belt in many cars can result in major engine damage. The cost of repairing an engine with a broken timing belt is much greater than the cost of a timing belt replacement.

When To Change Your Oil

December 23, 2018 by btrilli Leave a Comment

We’ve all been driving down the interstate and that little dreaded light comes on…it’s time for an oil change.  If only it could change itself. But how do we really know when we re supposed to do this? How often should we change our oil, and what happens if we don’t? Look no further, at Krietz we’ve got your back. I’m sure we’ve all checked our owner’s manual and there is usually a suggested amount of mileage to follow that shows you when to get your next oil change; but we can’t just simply go with this number. There are many factors that go into this number. Do you sit in traffic a lot? Do you commute to work? Does your car sit in the garage or driveway more than it’s driven? Our best bet to properly figure out how often to change your car’s oil is to set up a free assessment with one of our techs. Let us do a free 30 point courtesy inspection, and give you the correct mileage based on your specific car model. At Krietz, we don’t just sell cars, we love teaching our clients how to maintain and get the most life out of their vehicle.

What Should I Do If My Car Starts To Overheat

December 23, 2018 by btrilli Leave a Comment

This is a very serious problem – if your car overheats for too long, you can damage your engine. As soon as possible, find a safe place to pull off the road and shut the engine off! Do not attempt to check the fluid level in the radiator; the hot fluid can cause severe burns. The best thing to do is have your car towed so that one of our technicians can look at what’s going on under the hood. At Krietz, we pride ourselves on putting the safety of our customers first.

Why Should I Rotate My Tires?

Why Should I Rotate My Tires?

Wait, what? I need to rotate my tires? Don’t they “rotate” when I drive? Is this some scam crafted by auto shops to squeeze more money out of me? You may have asked yourself these questions before, and although tire rotation may sound like some useless, sly scam made up by auto shops, it is not. By the end of this blog post, you will understand more about this practice of tire rotation and why it is actually really important for you to have your tires rotated regularly.

What is this “Tire Rotation” Stuff?

Tire rotation is the act of moving them from one wheel to another, more often than not, diagonally, but it can also consist of moving your front tires to the back and back tires to the front. This service is quick, easy, and affordable. It’s so easy, in fact, that you could do it yourself (A Tutorial on that Coming Soon!). Some auto shops will include tire rotation in basic services such as oil changes, but others may charge separately for the service. Now that you know what tire rotation is, let me explain why it is so important.

Why You SHOULD rotate your tires

Theoretically, you could drive problem free without ever having to rotate your tires; however, it is not recommended that you do this. No, this isn’t a scam. It is actually in your best financial interest to rotate your tires. As your car is driven, tires wear. The tread on these tires begin to decrease. The best way to mitigate this is by rotating your tires. Tire rotation ensures that your tires wear evenly. If you never rotate your tires, one, maybe two will wear faster than the others, depending on whether your car is front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, or all wheel drive (i.e. front wheel drive cars will put more pressure and lead to more wear on the front tires due to the transfer of power from the engine to those wheels.). Failure to regularly rotate your tires will lead to a quicker need for replacement. Tires can be expensive, and by rotating them, you are prolonging their life span and saving yourself money. What’s more, rotated, even tires will make your ride smoother and its handling safer.

Don’t have the time to rotate your tires yourself? That’s what you have us here for? At Krietz Auto, our professional staff will rotate your tire in a timely and affordable manner, and will ensure that you are able to keep your car running smoothly and safely! So You Want to Lift Your Truck?

The Lifting Process

Do you ever see these massive trucks roll by, high off the ground, and wonder why they sit so high and how they got that way? The answer: through the aftermarket process of vehicle lifting. This modification is typically applied to pickup trucks; however, it can added to just about any vehicle to make it look more aggressive and distinct. It is not recommended to lift a coupe or sedan, however, it can be done. This modification can be added to any vehicle using either a body lift kit or a suspension lift kit. Body lift kits are designed to lift your vehicle two to three inches through the application of high quality nylon spacers between the body and the frame. On the other hand, a suspension lift kit is designed to raise the suspension through the replacement of the vehicle’s front and rear shocks and leaf springs. The latter would allow you to lift your truck to its absolute max, resulting in more ground clearance for your vehicle, opening up new opportunities for further modifications like large wheels, tires, and fender flares. Of course, suspension jobs can be some of the more costly vehicle services , so what if you are on a budget?

Not All Lift Kit Modifications are Outrageously Expensive

Choosing to install a lift kit on your vehicle is mostly a cosmetic modification, and will not impact the vehicle’s ride quality or handling too drastically. Some kits can be pricey, and body lift kits (the installation of high quality nylon spacers) are a lot cheaper than suspension lift kits. It all comes down to personal preference, though. At Krietz Auto, we offer a 3” and a 6” Rough Country Suspension Lift Kit, which gives the driver the option to lift the truck further in the future. Although pricier, suspension lifts are the better investment. For your convenience, Krietz Auto is offering 0% financing on its Rough Country Lift Kits. This way, you can pay off the modification monthly instead of making a one-time lump sum payment! If you are looking for a lift kit, look no further. The professionals at Krietz Customs will provide you with a quality and rewarding experience and service. Click here for further details or to schedule an appointment with our Krietz Customs team!

Why Should I Get My Oil Changed?

Why Should I Get My Oil Changed?

Car maintenance can sometimes come as an inconvenience; however, it is extremely important and necessary to keep up with your car’s maintenance schedule, especially when it comes to oil changes. Theoretically, you could drive your car until it dies without changing your oil; however, this is a terrible, potentially detrimental gamble. Oil changes are necessary, and it is important that you get them done in a timely manner. The time a vehicle can go between oil changes varies from vehicle to vehicle, and with the introduction of synthetic oil, some cars are now able to go 5,000-10,000 miles between oil changes. This information can be found in your vehicle’s owner’s manual, and it is vital that you know this information, as changing it too often (i.e. every 3,000 miles when your car can go 7,500 miles between oil changes) can be costly, as you are essentially flushing money. The benefits that come along with consistent, punctual oil changes include a clean engine, a lower likelihood of an overheated engine, and prolonged vehicle life.

The Cleaner the Engine, the Better the Performance

What are some of the most expensive services your vehicle could require, but are totally unavoidable? Well, pretty much anything related to the engine. One huge detriment of disregarding oil maintenance is the constant buildup of dirt and other residues in the engine. This can be significantly worse if you frequently drive in extreme conditions (i.e. severely hot or cold weather), have a long commute/take long trips, or drive hilly or mountainous terrain. Vehicles are made up of millions of parts; there are so many different issues you can run into to. You can negate these potential risks and issues through routine maintenance and a trustworthy technician (i.e. those at Krietz Auto). Believe me, an engine cleaning service can very, very costly, and the best way to avoid it is by keeping up with your vehicle’s maintenance schedule, ESPECIALLY its oil changes!

Engines Aren’t Cheap, Don’t Overheat

The chances of your engine overheating is extremely rare, thanks to technological advancement in the automotive industry. This does not mean, however, that it can’t or won’t happen. One of the most important functions of engine oil is that it keeps the various moving parts in your engine lubricated, thus reducing excessive friction. By neglecting your engine’s oil, you increase the likelihood of your engine overheating, as dirtier, overused oil is less capable of keeping these components properly lubricated. This, in turn, can lead to a dangerous level of heat in your vehicle’s engine bay, leading to an overheated engine.

The Golden Rule Applies to Your Vehicle Too

Treat your vehicle as you would want to be treated. If you take care of your vehicle, it will take care of you, it is as simple as that. We all know at least one person who is a proud owner of a early 2000s sedan that has over 200,000+ miles on its outdated odometer. What’s the secret to keeping your car running this long? Routine maintenance, especially oil changes! Keeping up with your vehicle’s maintenance schedule is key to prolonging its life, and from an investment standpoint, getting the most out of it.

Who said oil changes had to be expensive and inconvenient? Krietz Auto prides itself in its affordable, quality oil change services and its trustworthy and knowledgeable auto technicians! Don’t forget, if you buy your next vehicle from us, you get a lifetime of oil changes on that vehicle!
