Pricing and depreciation

There is a wide range in price between the eight trim levels of the Wrangler. The lowest trim, the Sport, starts around $32,000. The high-end Rubicon 392 reaches a starting price of almost $100,000.

Jeep Wranglers decrease in value most significantly during the first year of ownership.

Depreciation in Jeep Wranglers is most severe when they are bought new. According to CarEdge, brand new Jeeps can lose over 40% of their original MSRP value during year one.

There are several features that can preserve the Wrangler’s value, but the easiest way to avoid this depreciation is buying used. In addition to bypassing a large loss in value, the savings from buying used can be allocated towards aftermarket upgrades.

Money Saving Tips

There are a few ways to reduce the impact of depreciation. These upgrades can cost more up-front, but will preserve the long-term resale value of your Jeep Wrangler.

The Sky One-Touch Power Top is a roof option featured on newer Wranglers. It’s a convertible roof that slides back at the push of a button. Installation is about $4,000, but it’s a desirable addition that is proven to boost the resale value. If you’re sticking with the traditional hard top, color matching the roof and other aspects of the vehicle is another way to dampen the blow of depreciation.

A variety of engine options are available with the Jeep Wrangler. The 3.6L V6 engine is an ideal choice that has proven to be more reliable than it’s hybrid/4XE counterpart. With proper long-term care, this engine becomes a valuable asset when it’s time to sell.

On the interior, leather upholstery can improve both the quality and durability of your seats. leather does a much better job of deterring water and dirt from soaking into the seats. It costs just under $2,000 to make the upgrade from cloth to leather.

Starting at $2,295, The Wrangler’s updated technology package is another valuable investment into your vehicle’s future. It includes a larger display screen with an off-road camera and Apple CarPlay, which is not available without the tech package.
