The Best Factory Off-Road Trucks in 2026

August 6, 2026

Compare the suspension, off-roading ability, and engine power of three popular off-road trucks: The Ram 1500, Ford F-150, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

Exterior and Styling

The Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 has the longest bed size at 5’10”, with the Ram 1500 Rebel following close behind at 5’8″. The Ford F-150 Tremor has a bed size of 5’5″. Inside the cabin, Ram offers the most second row space, followed by Ford, then Chevrolet. All three of these trucks come with factory 33″ tires and specialized bumper designs.

Both the Chevrolet and Ram contain several external accents that enhance off-road performance and style. Ford’s Tremor trim level is defined by a yellow-gold stripe that stretches across the bumper. It also has a unique bumper design compared to other F-150 trims that improves wind resistance and fuel efficiency.

Engine Comparisons

The Silverado ZR2 comes stock with a 6.2L V8 engine. Ram will soon be reintroducing a V8 option, while Ford offers a V8 upgrade for the F-150 Tremor. Ram does equip the 1500 Rebel with a 3.0L Hurricane Twin-Turbo I6 engine, which performs similarly to the ZR2’s V8 despite being slightly less powerful.

The F-150 Tremor contains a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine, which is Ford’s strongest towing engine. It also has a higher torque than its Ram and Chevrolet counterparts despite having less horsepower. because of this, the F-150 has the fastest 0-60 MPH start out of these three vehicles.

Off-Road Features

The ZR2 trim offers the most out of these three trucks in terms of factory off-road features. The specialized bumper and hood scoop contribute to a bolder appearance. Chevrolet’s MultiMatic DSSV suspension also puts the ZR2 a level above the competition, with shocks that adapt to your road conditions and driving habits in order to maintain the best ride quality.

The Ram 1500 Rebel has factory shocks from Bilstein, a reliable and budget-friendly aftermarket manufacturer. these shocks are ideal for light off-roading, such as gravel roads or hunting trails. The F-150, while lacking factory suspension, maintains smooth ride quality even while stock.

Krietz Customs Upgrades

Each one of these trucks has been outfitted with an array of aftermarket upgrades and additional features. All three of these vehicles are sitting at a total lift height of six inches. The Chevrolet Silverado’s MultiMatic DSSV factory suspension provides two inches of lift, and a ReadyLift 4″ lift kit completes the setup. The Ford and Ram are both equipped with 6″ Rough Country lift kits. These Rough Country lifts may lack extreme off-road durability, but are still a reliable suspension option that won’t put a strain on your budget.

Another dependable mid-level upgrade is Fury’s Country Hunter R/T tires. At 35″, they sit comfortably under the fenders with a six-inch lift, and are one of the top tire options at its price point. 22×12 Fuel wheels round out each of these custom builds, starting with fusion forged wheels such as the Catalyst. With a gloss black rim and satin black insert, this wheel offers the best of both worlds. Other Fuel wheels such as the Flame or Rebar are available in either satin or gloss black. Both are great options, but the satin black appearance contains a slight sheen that keeps pollen and other debris less visible on the wheel.
