Determining Wheel and Tire Size

The size of your wheels and tires directly influences the type and height of suspension needed.

For smaller setups such as a 20×9 wheel, you may not need any additional lift. 33-inch tires will require a leveling kit or a smaller lift. Larger tires such as 35″ or 37″s will need a substantial lift to ensure a proper fit.

Your vehicle type also effects the fitment of your wheels and tires. Certain models will need trimming near the fenders to fit larger setups, while most full-size trucks only need a six-inch lift.

Lift Height Recommendations

A leveling kit keeps the vehicle closest to it’s factory appearance and ride quality. These kits raise the front of the vehicle to match the height of the rear, which is often lifted slightly by the manufacturer. Leveling kits also create extra space for larger tires.

A 3.5″ lift is ideal for those seeking an upgraded look without sacrificing the vehicle’s practicality and function. these lifts can accommodate 20×10 wheels and 33″ tires.

A 6″ lift is one of the most frequently installed sizes at Krietz Customs, often paired with 22-inch wheels and 35″ tires. 6″ lifts combine a standout appearance with off-road practicality.

Ride Quality and Maintainence

Lift kits alter the ride quality of your vehicle, and require proper upkeep and attention to ensure long-term function. The higher the lift, the stiffer the ride will feel.

Aftermarket lift kits can wear down some factory components of the vehicle. your suspension and steering should be regularly monitored and cleaned, and shocks must be replaced every five to six years.

Tires also effect ride quality. all-terrain or hybrid tires ensure a quieter and smoother ride than mud tires.

Where and How Do You Drive?

Your truck’s lift height, along with its other upgrades, should be suited for your lifestyle and driving habits.

Consider the height of your home garage, or the parking structures near you – will your lifted truck fit? If you’re frequently driving with family or other passengers, choosing a smaller lift (3-4″) is the best way to make sure everybody in the vehicle is comfortable.

Are you driving on narrow urban streets or wider off-road trails? Where you plan to drive your vehicle is a key factor in how your upgrades will effect the function, comfort, and safety of your truck.

Budget Considerations

Budget is obviously a major factor in determining how you’ll be able to upgrade your vehicle. Leveling kits are the most affordable suspension change, often ranging between $99 and $1,000. Full suspension lifts fall between $1,000 and $6,000.

Complete builds with suspension, wheels, and tires will cost at least $5,000, if you choose to install a leveling kit. Larger lift kits (5-6″) will require $8,500 or more if you’re looking to add custom wheels and tires alongside the suspension.
