June 16, 2026

Overview and Custom Build Tips

Which Chevrolet Silverado is the best fit for you? Compare and contrast three of the trim levels featured in the 2026 model year: The RST, Trail Boss, and ZR2.

The vehicles featured in this guide are outfitted with 35″ Fury Country Hunter R/T tires, a reliable mid-grade tire that complements well with Fuel’s 22×12 wheels such as the Rebar, Flux, or the fusion forged Catalyst. Depending on your Silverado’s factory suspension, a 4″ or 6″ lift is the perfect foundation for your custom build.

RST

Out of the three trim levels featured here, the RST is the only one with a paint matched front bumper, which contributes to the vehicle’s sleeker appearance. It’s a trim designed for street driving and takes on a smooth appearance. Even though it’s not factory lifted, it still features factory shocks, making for a very comfortable daily driver. The lack of factory suspension also makes the RST an easily customizable option.

Chevrolet is known for their motor variety, and the Silverado RST is no exception. choose between a 5.3L or 6.2L V8, 3.0L Duramax Diesel, or the 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder. the 5.3L is the most popular choice and the most balanced option. the Duramax is suited for highway driving and towing, and the turbocharged 2.7L is an ideal fit for lifted builds.

LT Trail Boss

The Trail Boss is a mid-level trim designed for off-road performance. It’s two-inch factory lift sets it apart from the RST. The Trail Boss comes as either a Custom or LT, with most of the differences between the two coming on the interior. The Trail Boss’ off-road design is highlighted by it’s blacked out bumper, grille, and added hood scoop.

The factory suspension on the Trail Boss allows for more aggressive setups than the RST, and up to eight inches of total lift when paired with a six-inch kit. Since the LT Trail Boss does not come with upgraded shocks, you’re still able to apply a wide range of upgrades to the suspension, including aftermarket struts and shocks. The same four engine options are available with the Trail Boss.

Zr2

The ZR2 is the ultimate high-performance version of the 2026 Silverado. It’s off-road performance and suspension is defined by Chevrolet’s Multimatic DSSV shocks, which come standard in the ZR2. Whether you install a lift kit or not, the Multimatic shocks provide great ride quality on all terrains. The ZR2’s bumper design slightly differs from the other trims, and allows for larger wheels and tires along with higher clearance.

Only the 3.0L Duramax and 6.2L V8 engines are available with the ZR2. Your lift options are also limited with the ZR2 due to the factory suspension additions. You’ll need a strut spacer to allow for an aftermarket lift, and upper control arms are recommended to reinforce the suspension.
